Splice The Mainbrace

Splice The Mainbrace It’s that time of year again, the time when the Squadron’s members gather for the annual “Splice the Mainbrace” event. This isn’t just any gathering; it’s a tradition steeped in history and camaraderie, a celebration of the sea and the bonds formed on its vast expanse. As the Bell tolls by Commodore John Warlow at the appointed hour of 5pm or 1700 hours, the air buzzes with anticipation. Members, old and new, mingle, their faces glowing with the promise of the evening to come. The clink of glasses punctuates the hum of conversation, as stories of past adventures and future voyages are shared. A naval tradition dating back centuries, it’s a symbolic act that represents unity and strength, the members raise their glasses in a toast. For one hour, they drink and reminisce, their shared experiences creating a bond as strong as the rope they splice. The “Splice the Mainbrace” event is more than just an annual gathering. It’s a celebration of the spirit of sailing at RQYS, a testament to the enduring allure of Sailing and Motor Boating and friendly competition. For one hour each year, the members of the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron come together to honor their shared passion, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Here’s to another successful event and many more to come. What a great club to be a Member Cheers! 🥂
